Affair Recovery in Ft. Worth

The Journey to Restore Trust

Restoring trust is essential to affair recovery. To move forward, the struggler must be honest and confess the past to their spouse or girlfriend. This can be a very scary endeavor as your spouse or girlfriend could leave you, but the cost of allowing things to go as they are without any conversation is equally as devastating. The cost of doing nothing can result in equal pain that allows the relationship to ultimately die. Trust must be cultivated and there can be no trust when there is no confession and alteration of behavior.

Part of the affair recovery process is engaging in counseling in a way that fosters therapeutic healing for the couple. The whole purpose of this process is to provide reconciliation and healing for the couple. Ideally, you would want both the betrayed partner and the addict in therapy during this entire process. Affair recovery should not be rushed in order to avoid further damage. The process of growing in trust, forgiveness, reconciliation, and intimacy takes time, especially after something this deep and painful. However, working through your suffering and pain can lead to deep restoration and relational joy.

What does affair recovery look like?

For the betrayed partner: the pain and heartache you feel is real. There are very few things in life more painful than your spouse cheating on you. The anger, sadness, fear, shame, and hurt feel impossible to bear. You have no idea where to go from here. You may think this is your fault and rehearse all the ways this could have been avoided, but it isn’t your fault. Maybe you have questions on where do I go from here, how did this happen, who do I share this with, how can I bear the damage done to my reputation, and does my husband really love me. It is such a hard and complex time in your life where the grief, anger, and sadness come in waves. Your relationships can be restored and you can get back to a joyful one. Though it’s a tough road ahead , restoration and relational joy is possible.

For the struggling addict: Maybe the hardest thing you are going through is the toll your porn and sex addiction has taken on your marriage. The rightful hurt that your wife feels is so hard to navigate and you feel horrible about the choices you have made. Maybe it was a random one night stand, porn, or you emotionally connected with someone else. Regardless, there is a huge breach of trust between your spouse or girlfriend and you feel so sad, ashamed, and angry at your choice. This isn’t who you want to be. Maybe you are sleeping in separate rooms or both of you are just going through the motions because it seems impossible to recover. When you try to bring it up, it just feels hopeless and you feel completely lost on where to go from here. What if you could have a good marriage despite the pain and lack of trust created? What if your marriage can recover and it could be more joyful than you imagined?

If you are suffering the pain of an affair, I’m here to help. I would love to share more about my approach to affair recovery therapy on a free 15-minute consultation call.

What if we’re planning to divorce due to an affair?

Sadly and understandably, many relationships where there is an affair involved result in divorce. This makes the process even more difficult to deal with because you have to revisit such painful memories. However, teasing out what happened and why it happened can assist you in long term recovery so that the same thing doesn’t happen in the future. Affair recovery therapy could help you grow into the person you were intended to be so that you can live the life that you want to live.

If you are divorced, then individual therapy to uncover these things is a wise path forward. However, if you have not divorced yet, then I’d love to meet with you and we can uncover if you and your spouse want to enter into affair recovery together. Please fill out this form to schedule a free 15-minute call to discuss your situation with me.
